Self-Portraits are the biggest challenge for me. I don’t think I’m “photogenic” at all. Anyway I tooke this shot using my 50mm on manual focus. I was on an emergency exit stairwell in a parking garage. Since I didn’t have a tripod I used the stairs to rest the camera on.

The hardest thing about owning an online store when you are also a designer is you see everything as a designer would see it and not how a consumer would. My Hubs says I suck at SEO and Commerce best practices because I’m resistant to anything that “looks” bad or doesn’t flow. So after several arguments (small ones) I have decided to set my designing habits aside and follow his SEO/Commerce suggestions. After all he’s been study with Stompernet and has gotten my site on the first page of Google for the main key words. So he’s got to be doing something right, right?
So with his guidance I have enterily revamped LaLaBabyBoutique. I’m not really in love with the design and there hasn’t been a drastic improvement in sales. But I’ll give it a try and see how things go.

I decided to play with some photos this evening to keep me from losing my mind. For some reason all of the attributes/options on my store are displaying the same small/medium and large/x-large as the ONLY option. Instead of driving myself crazy trying to figure out what went wrong I decided to work on some pictures.
WHAT I DID:
I took this picture in very low light using my 50mm lens and camera’s flash. Getting my son to keep still is next to impossible.
EDITING:
I recently purchased an action set from MCPActions.com and decided to play around with some of them. I should have recorded which one I used, but of course I did not.
WHY:
I love this picture because my son is always flashing some crazy face expressions, my goal is to try and capture as many as I can before he grows out of them.
There is a flickr group that is launching today challenging photog’s to capture images using their 50mm for 50 days. I decided to participate so I can get more comfortable using my prime lens. I’m used to zooming so it’s been an adjustment.

My kids are growing up fast and I’ve managed to capture it all on camera! However, because I’m usually the picture taker I miss out on actually BEING in the photos. So this week I decided to include my daughter in this weeks self-portrait.
WHAT I DID:
In this picture we were in the master bedroom that has really poor lighting. I mounted the joby tripod onto my sons crib (yes it’s still in our room!) and also used Professor Korbre’s Lightscoop and of course the built in timer on the camera.
CAMERA SETTINGS:
ISO 800, f/s 2.8, 1/200
EDITING:

So after reading up on the Light Scoop, I decided to treat myself to one for my birthday. The Lightscoop® is a smart low-tech device that creates soft, flattering light by redirecting your camera’s pop-up flash to a ceiling or wall. Which is great because I hate the way the pictures come out when using the pop up flash, in fact I try to bring in as much natural light as possible to avoid using it.

Yep, you guessed it today is my birthday and since its such a special occasion, I decided to start a new photography challenge. See I completly bombed at the 365 self-portrait challenge. I just didn’t have time or the right equipment at the time. So I decided a photo a week is certainly doable.
We’ll see…
